ARMY OF JUAN - Army Of juan (Ska Satellite MR9002)

BAD MANNERS - Heavy Petting (Moon Ska Records MR107)  (Excellent 1997 release from Buster & the boys. Features covers of 'Black night', 'Feel like jumping' and 'No, no, no' amongst others - this CD comes 17 years after they first hit the big time as part of the Two-Tone era)

BUFORD O'SULLIVAN - The club of hopes and fears (Ska Satellite MR9006) (Excellent ska/mod/new wave LP from ex Scofflaw trombonist. O'Sullivan wrote a lot of the material for his previous band and on this, his first solo LP gets the help of ex Toasters and ex Scofflaw members)

BUTLERS - Trash for cash  (Blackout BOCD002) (TRACKS: Back On The Streets / Cosmo Cab / Sold Down The River / These Boots / Pusherman / Break Out / U Can Get It / Ain t Got No Time / Silver / Let It Bloom / Let It Flow / St. James Infirmary / Refugium In Black / Paint It Black / Pusherman s Revenge. Fantastic ska / punk CD from Germany. )

BUTLERS - Skintight - live und intim part 1 & 2 (Blackout BOCD004)  ( Excellent live double CD from leading punk-ska band from Germany. All the essential ingrediants included - horns, organ and a manic lead singer. Original ska style mixed with a punky attitude. 25 tracks in all. Great value) £6.50

CAN'T SAY - True grit (Ska Satellite MR9008) (Tunes like "I Will Not" and "You Won't Mind" are typical cuts for the band, featuring speed-sticking ska-core beats, wraparound fuzz guitar, them chee-zee ska-core saxes (and I mean that in the nicest Bosstones way), and happy upbeat interludes for singing verses. They also offer more straight-up Third Wave ska-rock in tunes like "Mine" which will keep any skankster on his/her feet)

CRITICAL MASS - Give it up, let it go  (Moon Ska MR9007) (Critical Mass does a good job of resurrecting that late 70s pop/ska/punk feel that seemed to run through everything being labeled New Wave at the time. Essential to that era was the stripped down sound that Critical Mass goes for with a four-piece outfit: drums, guitar, bass, and one friggin saxophone. They play sharp, high caliber ska that proves you can play manic without getting aggressive or hardcore.)

GANGSTER POLITICS - Gangster Politics (Stomp CD013) (Gangster Politics originally was inspired by ska-core groups like Skankin' Pickle, Operation Ivy, and second-wave ska groups such as The Specials and Madness. However, after several years on the Canadian scene playing shows with the Kingpins, the Planet Smashers, Big Rude Jake, and Whole Lotta Milka, Gangster Politics has "chilled out", unearthing their true ska-based jazz-funk-lounge fusion, comparable to the style of New York's Skavoovie and the Epitones and even reminiscent of first-wave ska pioneers The Skatalites)

GOO GOO RAYS - Family fun night (Moon Ska MR9005) (

HIGHBALL - Holiday (Ska Satellite MR9001) (

LLOYD BREVETT & THE SKATALITES - African roots (Moon Ska MR104) (Part of Moon's Ska Authentic series, this album is a truly unique entry in the Skatalites discography, mainly because it's hardly a ska album at all. This is actually a re-release of the first Skatalites reunion in 1975 which came about indirectly as a result of Brevett's first solo effort. The plan was to cut some reggae tracks in Lee Perry's studio, but in the process, Brevett decided to toss in some traditional ska and called in his old Studio One cohorts to help him out. The result is a mature collection of solid reggae and dub tracks performed by the dudes who damn well invented the whole Jamaican scene. The real treasure of this album is not only in the fine production value, but also hearing Brevett and Knibb jump back in to the Jamaican musical tree and give Sly and Robbie a run for their money. Brevette's unmistakable acoustic sound and tasteful lines give tunes like "Stream in the Meadow" and "Herb Challis" the groove from which the rest of the legendary Skatalites take flight. For those who need their Don Drummond fix, this disc also includes four bonus tracks from the 60s Skatalites' Treasure Isle catalog.)

MAGADOG - Dui-n-i (Moon Ska MR094) (For anyone who likes ska or punk music they should get this cd. All the songs have a great beat and is very enjoyable to listen to,,,,songs like the video girl, the mad professor, monkey in the white house and a remake of van morrrisons brown eyed girl song with a ska beat makes this cd a must-have).

MEPHISKAPHELES - Maximum perversion (Moon Ska MR555) (Building on the annoying penchant for puns in the ska world and the hokey images of Death Metal, Mephiskapheles has parlayed that attention into a legitimate musical force, offering up their own mix of ska, distortion, funk, anarchy, and humor. The first album presented a quality Third Wave ska sound, but Maximum Perversion takes the band and the music to new territory. They've added much more head-banging tinted skank here, emphasized by stronger contributions from the horn section, more guitar sound for Brendog, and a wider range of songwriting)

MOBTOWN - Cactus juice (Moon Ska MR124) (Mobtown are quite possibly one of the finest trad ska bands to emerge from the hyperactive California ska scene, and Moon Ska Records is mighty proud to present their second album "Cactus Juice". Mobtown's ska sound is influenced equally by the ska musicians of the sixties (like The Skatalites), as well as the ska bands of the two-tone era and the third wave of ska. With such varied influences, Mobtown appeals to all fans of ska music, whether they're ska-punkers or traditional rude boys! "Cactus Juice" features a mix of ska instrumentals, as well as vocal cuts featuring the sweet sound of their female singer Amy Long!)

MR REVIEW - One way ticket to Skaville (Moon Ska MR120) (Mr. Review are well-known as a veteran band on the European ska scene, having released three albums on Grover Records and maintaining a steady presence on the touring scene. This American release is billed as the "essential Mr. Review, ". The European Madness)

PORKERS - Hot dog daiquiri (Moon Ska MR138) (The Porkers are a fun-loving ska band that has been kicking around the pubs and coasts of Australia for over a decade. They've gone through several lineup changes and break-up/reformations in that time, but they've managed to hold on to a fairly strong image. At rock bottom, they are a Down Under modern ska party band, doing for skins and rudies in Oz what bands like The Toasters and The Busters haev done for their continents.)

REGATTA 69 - Primetime (Moon Ska MR126) (Regatta 69 is a combination of ska and rock. And on their third full-length album they bring you some of the best music they have written to date. Watch out, because these twelve tracks are going to cause you to burn holes in your shoes, and fog up your mirrors.)

ROBUSTO'S - Introducing... (Ska Satellite MR9004) (The Robustos are an Atlanta based traditional ska band fronted with female vocals. This is their debut CD on Moon Ska's off-shoot, Ska Satellite Records. The guitar serves up a very hot upbeat that will drive your feet wild, and the hammond pours its heart into the music, keeping everything (and everyone) on their toes.)

RUDE BONES - There'll be lots of hard times along the way (Moon Ska MR118) (Excellent 1997 Moon Ska release from the leading Japanese ska band. Features guest appearance from Mr Dicky of THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES. Great party ska.)

RUDER THAN YOU - Big step (Moon Ska MR038) (

RUDER THAN YOU - Horny for ska (Moon Ska MR076) (Ruder Than You is a very upbeat ska band from Philly. With their second CD, Horny for Ska, they deliver some memorable moments that will make you want to get up and not stop. They also cover such songs as "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath and "Beg You Little More" by Prince Buster.)

SKALARS - Change Up (Moon Ska MR144) (

V / A - Bang: Original soundtrack (Moon Ska MR119) (Moon Ska Records is making history by releasing the first US all-ska film soundtrack for the independent film "Bang." Such bands as Ocean 11, The Slackers, The Toasters, Let's Go Bowling, and Isaac Green & The Skalars contribute to this compilation.)

V / A - Californian skaquake Vol 2 (Moon Ska MR078) (

V / A - Moonshot ! (Moon Ska MR125) (Excellent compilation from 1998 from bands on the Moon Ska label including The Toasters, Bad Manners, laurel Aitken, The Busters, The Adjusters and Regatta 69 amongst others)

V / A - New York Beat: Breaking and entering Vol 2 (Moon Ska MR099) (Showcasing what is going on in New York, this compilation includes new comers to the ska scene like Edna's Goldfish, Metro Stylee, Radiation Kings, and the Pilfers, along with well-known (and well respected) bands like Stubborn All-Stars, Toasters, Skinnerbox NYC, and the Scofflaws.)

V / A - Ska United: A global ska sampler (Moon Ska MR130) (Ska started out in Jamaica, then the English revived it and started up the '2nd wave.' Now America has staked its claim with its 'third-wave,' but America isn't the only country where ska bands are currently cropping up. England, Germany, Russia, France, and Brazil are just a few of the countries who have an active ska life bubbling. And who else to bring us a ska sampler covering the globe than New York's Moon Ska Records.)

V / A - Skandal Vol. 4 (Moon Ska

V / A - Skank down under (Moon Ska MR077) ( Australia & New Zealands best ska bands !. 1996 compilation featuring The Porkers, Skazoo, Dr Raju and The Offbeats amongst others.)
